Welcome to Shady Grove!

Our church began when the world changed over 2000 years ago. Jesus, the Christ, put on flesh and announced the Kingdom of God by his words and actions. Most decisively, we believe that the world changed when Jesus was crucified, dead and buried, yet, resurrected victorious over death and then ascended to the right hand of God the Father. From there, God the Holy Spirit was poured out onto the one, holy, catholic, and apostolic church: those persons who were in Christ and thus receiving and participating in God’s New Creation. God’s people have been on the move ever since then declaring that Jesus is Lord and that the world is being made new as we become his disciples.

As United Methodists, we believe that the local church provides the most significant arena through which disciple–making occurs. Our Methodist movement began with the Rev. John Wesley’s desire to renew the church by bringing the liturgy to life. That movement eventually gave birth to The United Methodist Church.

Shady Grove is one of many local churches that make up The United Methodist Church. We exist to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. We are a church of 12 million members worldwide … including our community in Providence, NC.
